This workshop, to be held at the University of Cape Town's Centre for African Studies from 4 to 6 September 2008, is the third in the Centre's annual conference series. We are especially looking for papers that are either country-specific on different forms of struggle or which explore links between struggles in different countries. The emphasis is very much on NEW perspectives. We invite proposals for papers on the legacies of liberation struggles and on the way they have been memorialised, and on historiography and sources. Thanks to the Nordic Africa Institute, some funding for travel and accommodation will be available for younger scholars from within the region who present papers.

Papers are due by 31 July 2008.

This is a closed workshop, open only to paper-givers and discussants. The only public event is on Saturday, 6 September at 6pm in the CAS Gallery (see separate invitation)
